Den Boomgaard House

Den Boomgaard House

by Van der Heijden Architecten

This single-storey house is defined by an elongated, rectangular brick volume with floor-to-ceiling window frames and accents of timber cladding. Set in the countryside near Zieuwent, generous window openings frame sweeping, uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape. The carport and storage are folded into the overall design, creating one clear architectural gesture, while a deep roof overhang forms a covered terrace and doubles as sun shading for the large glass façades.

Extra-long bricks were chosen to emphasize the horizontal lines of the façade, reinforcing the elongated character of the house. The modest height and abstract, restrained form allow the building to settle quietly into its rural surroundings rather than dominate them.

Inside and out, the material palette stays limited: brick, timber slats, glass and a dark roofline. The result is a calm, low-lying composition that opens generously toward the garden and landscape beyond, with the carport and outdoor terrace treated as integral parts of the same architectural statement.
