Country House

by Medie Janssen Interieurarchitect

In Duiven, a brick villa with a steep, thatched-look roofline opens onto a garden of ornamental grasses and hydrangeas. Arched windows and a rounded entrance soften the facade's traditional character, while inside, dark oak, black-veined stone and warm brass detailing set a restrained, contemporary tone. The interior design balances the home's rural silhouette with a calm, material-driven palette.

The kitchen forms the heart of the plan, organised around a long stone island that carries a farmhouse sink and gas range. A sculptural ring pendant, wrapped in leather and brass, hangs low above the counter, its glow reflected in the polished stone surface. Grey tiled flooring and full-height glazing bring daylight deep into the space.

Elsewhere, built-in oak cabinetry frames quiet still lifes: a book resting on a carved stand, an alabaster bowl holding figs. Black stone shelving repeats the material language of the kitchen island, tying the rooms together without repetition of form.

Outside, the brick gable rises uninterrupted toward the roof, its arched windows and doorway the only ornament on an otherwise plain surface, framed by dense planting at ground level.
