Papenpad

The project began with a wish for more space, initially imagining an extra storey on the existing structure. Through careful study of daily use and the qualities of the site, the design shifted toward a modest ground-floor extension combined with a full replanning of the interior layout.

A newly designed roof plane subtly opens toward the sky, allowing light to reach previously dark corners of the house and offering clearer views of the treetops and changing seasons. Wood-clad volumes and slender steel columns support a deep overhang, creating a sheltered outdoor terrace that extends the living space into the garden.

By building on what already existed rather than demolishing it, the transformation kept its environmental impact limited while giving the home renewed spatial quality, daylight and comfort for the next generation of its occupants.
