Villa SP

Approached from the surrounding grounds, Villa SP reveals itself gradually: the volume folds open and closed across its various facades, so the house presents a different face from every angle. Mecanoo built the design around a reference to historical castle typologies without imitating them directly, translating that tradition into a contemporary, sculptural form.

The exterior photographs show how wood, natural stone, and brass alternate in texture and tone, with no single material taking precedence. The central patio remains the pivot of the plan, tying the wings of the house together with the traces of the older foundation uncovered on site.

The additional photographs place the villa within its landscape, showing how the building settles into the existing topography rather than standing apart from it. Completed in 2023 as a new build, Villa SP keeps its scale and detailing in balance with the historical character of the site.
