Villa C

Villa C

by Paul de Ruiter Architects

Villa C is a single-storey, ground-hugging residence set within a wooded plot, its dark timber-clad volume rising above a fully glazed base. Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors dissolve the boundary between interior and forest, framing the surrounding trees from every room. A cantilevered roof with a warm timber underside shelters the terrace, while an elevated wooden box housing bedrooms punctuates the otherwise horizontal composition. The result is a quiet, introspective home that merges architecture with its natural surroundings.

The villa is organized around a long, transparent ground floor wrapped almost entirely in glass, allowing uninterrupted views into the surrounding woodland. Interior spaces such as the living room, library and home office open directly onto the garden through sliding glass walls, blurring the line between built space and landscape.

Above this transparent base, a compact volume clad in vertical dark timber slats houses more private functions. Its angled roofline and slender window openings give it a sculptural presence against the tree canopy, contrasting with the horizontal, open character of the floor below.

Materials remain restrained throughout: exposed wood structure, dark metal cladding and expanses of glass define both the exterior and interior atmosphere. Furnishings and artwork visible inside suggest a considered, gallery-like interior that complements the architectural restraint of the design.
