Villa Kwakkenberg Transformation and Sustainability

Inside, the hallway sets the tone for the renovation: sober, ordered, functional as a transition between exterior and the living spaces. The kitchen and living areas open toward the surrounding forest, with the villa's original volume retained as an anchor for the adjustments carried out by Van de Looi Van Aken Architecten.

Photographs of the exterior show how the building relates to its wooded site in Nijmegen, with the topography left largely intact. The distinction between the main house and the secondary structures, noted for its material contrast, is visible in the transitions between the volumes.

Together the interventions form a quiet study in restraint: a mid-century villa adapted to contemporary standards without erasing its original character.
