Nest

Nest is a compact holiday home built high among the treetops of the Hoge Veluwe national park, part of an artist residency of eleven follies designed around the theme of camouflage. Raised on slender black steel legs, the timber-clad tower echoes the archetypal shape of a birdhouse, blending quietly into its forest setting rather than dominating it. Its staggered, three-tiered volume creates niches for nesting boxes used by bats and birds, making the structure as much a habitat for wildlife as for people. Inside, a compact kitchen, living space and mezzanine bedroom are arranged to maximise views and light through round windows and sliding glass doors.
